What if I am not sure how I feel about therapy and how long I may want?

That’s ok, the initial appointment will give you the opportunity to discuss what your issues are and a chance to ask any questions about Counselling and Psychotherapy. You can decide if you would like to continue and there is no fixed time limit. Each person is different, and the length of time will depend on how long you may want to spend resolving these issues. Some clients may need a few weeks, some months, and others’ years. I usually offer you a guide based on what you may want to achieve and if short-term or long-term work will be suitable. I will always review the work with you as we go along to make sure your needs are being met. Once we have agreed a way forward, times and dates will be booked to suit you.

Is medication a substitute for therapy?

It is well recognised that medication cannot solely solve mental and emotional problems, and the pain caused in the long run. In some cases, a combination of medication and therapy are complimentary and the right cause of action. It is always advisable to seek advice from your GP to determine what is right for you. Therapy often looks at addressing the cause of your distress and the behaviour patterns that limit one’s progress. With an integrative approach to wellness, you can best achieve a more balanced and greater sense of well-being and growth.
